Remember when i promised to put up my compo.
Yeah this is the post.
There was no title to it originally.
But i decided to give it a title.
It's called "The Old Man"
It is my first sucessful story so here goes
-----------------------------------------------------
"I will never see them again," the old man thought. He could feel it in his bones as he laid on his bed that the end was near. He turned his head and saw that dawn was breaking. Tears welled up in his eyes as he looked around his room. His gaze fell fondly on his wife and grown up children as he started to reminisce about the past.
He still remebered the day he met his wife all those years ago. He was having supper at a twenty-four-hour cafe when a young lady slipped on a puddle of water and spilled a whole pot of coffee on his lap. Being the hotshot pilot he was, he would have blown his top, but that night, for some reason, their eyes met and he just could not utter a word. The young waitress apologized profusely as his eyes took in her beauty, "Can I have your number?" he blurted. The waitress turned pink in the face and gave him the number. He spent the rest of the night waiting for her shift to end so that he could offer to drive her home, and that was when it all began.
Turning his attention from his still beautiful wife to his grown up son, he smiled as he recalled reciving a message from his wife that she was in labour just as he had got off his jet. He had sped to the hospital with his Alfa Romeo. He could still remember the police officer who stopped him and gave him a ticket for speeding. The officer would turn out to be a lifelong friend and his children's godfather. He had stepped in to the room just as his wife gave the last agonizing push and he saw his perfect newborn son. He jumped with joy and caused a ruckus as he shouted his happiness only to be shushed by his wife and a nurse.
The old man turned again and looked at his daughter with her highlighted hair and piercings. He looked adown at his own navel piercing as he remembered the day his daughter got her degree and decided to have a bit of fun. She had asked for monet to get tattoos and piercings but he had other plans. He drove her down to the tatoo parlour and the both of them got father-and-daughter navel rings. Sure, he was not at all that enthusiastic about getting himself pierced but the look on his daughter's face was reward enough for all the pain he had endured for that one little ring in his navel.
He looked at his family again. He had been blessed during his life on earth, he had lived a fulfilliung life and had no regrets. He smiled as he slowly fell into a peaceful sleep from which he never woke.
There were no tears at his funeral even though his family and friends missed him. They could only smile as they knew he had passed on as a happy man.
